Forging craft
The cottage industry of Montoro is very marked by the forging; the iron is worked giving it a specialised shape in articles such as outdoor garden furniture, interior furniture and decoration elements in the workshop.
What is the forging process about?
Forging is a process in which a forge is used to heat metals (usually iron compounds), an anvil and a container in which the forged pieces can be quickly cooled in order to cool them.
Tools used include pliers to catch the hot iron and hammers to hit the hot metal. This is what makes it different from other iron works in which some of the material is removed by other tools or they have other processes by which the metal is shaped.

This tradition which has gone from generation to generation in Montoro, has remained intact with the hammer through the fire.
