El Refugio is accommodation for those who, when they travel, seek to experience the true essence of a place.
It occupies the first floor of a 19th-century house located in the center of Montoro, a land of olive groves and molinaza sandstone, 40 km from Córdoba.
With its original antique terracotta flooring, high ceilings, and fireplace, it offers a peaceful, spacious, and charming setting where you can spend a few days with family or friends, discover the town of Montoro, and enjoy excursions to the Cardeña-Montoro Natural Park.

Montoro boasts a rich historical, cultural, and natural heritage that makes it a particularly attractive destination to visit. Among its cultural highlights are several important museums, including the Archaeological Museum, the Olive Oil Museum, and a museum dedicated to one of the town’s most renowned artists.
Some of the municipality’s most iconic landmarks include the unique House of Shells, famous for its façade and courtyard decorated with hundreds of shells; Plaza de España, the heart of the historic centre; and the Olive Fountain and the traditional Pilar Fountain, which has recently been restored.
However, the true essence of Montoro is best discovered by wandering through its narrow, whitewashed, cobbled streets. Exploring its historic quarter and admiring its charming corners steeped in tradition offers visitors an authentic insight into the town’s character. The layout of the streets naturally leads towards the river, a defining feature of Montoro’s identity.
The town is embraced by a spectacular meander of the Guadalquivir River, considered the most impressive in Andalusia, offering breathtaking views and beautiful natural scenery. Along the riverbank runs a pleasant stone pathway, ideal for leisurely walks and enjoying the surroundings. From there, a wooden bridge leads to the well-known Vuelta de la Isla, a small botanical garden completely surrounded by the river, where visitors can admire a wide variety of native plant species.
