The cheer of the chapel neighbourhood will dazzle you.
Virgen de Gracia Chapel
Virgen de Gracia chapel is located, as its name refers to, in the Virgen de Gracia neighbourhood, it is very close to the park with which it also shares the same designation. Here you will be able to rest and have some snacks.
If you come from the historical centre of the town, it is a perfect opportunity to visit this chapel, we recommend you to walk along Realejo Street from Herrerías Street to get to the chapel. It is a viewpoint that will offer you an exceptional panoramic view of Montoro; it is a unique gift for the sight.
Architecture of the building
Its construction belongs to the 18th century, although it was built on an earlier one. It has a single nave in which the Virgen de Gracia small chapel is placed.
The protruding structure is located on the cornice, on the front, it is moved towards the wall of the Gospel. You will see that the chapel has only one structure and it is embellished with a divided triangular pediment, in which there is a cross in the centre.
You will realize that it is a humble construction when you come into it, it is a rectangular building with a single nave, distinguishing between the area of the sacristy and the small chapel.
The single nave is divided into three sections and it is covered with a vault with edges separated by transverse arches that rest on pilasters and pendants- that is to say, ornamentations shaped like hanging flowers. The small chapel is placed next to the presbytery and it is covered by a dome over pendentives and gold platers ornamentation.
At present
Currently, it is the headquarters of the Stmo. Cristo Resucitado Brotherhood, it is the place where it begins its station of penitence on the morning of the Easter Sunday.
A door with enough height was adapted to one of the sides due to the small size of its main access door in order to make an improvement to the exit of the main image. All this was done without damaging any architectural element that could involve any type of loss in the ecclesiastical heritage of Montoro.
