Oil Museum
The work exhibited in this museum is devoted to the culture of the olive tree as well as to all the works related to the countryside of Montoro and it is mainly focused on an example of the tools that workers used to work.
For accessing it you will have to go to the Tercias Catedralicias building which is located in the historical centre of Montoro.
Why is olive oil so important in Montoro?
The importance of the olive oil in Montoro has its roots in the protohistoric times. However, the real raise of the olive trees in Montoro took place in the 18th century, it was the moment in which productivity increased considerably due to the increase of olive trees in this area.
The increase in the quantity of olives made necessary the fact of creating new mills, – this is similarly explained in the Olive oil tourism section-. That is the reason why from 1784 onwards this type of factories began to be built since 1784 in the municipal district of Montoro.

On your arrival you will see two exhibition rooms, the ground floor, where the cellar was located, it shows a series of exhibition spaces that make an in-depth study of how olive oil was extracted from the Roman time until our days.
On the other hand, we recommend you the explanation of the progress of the olive tree in the mountains of Montoro and the raise of the olive oil mills and fiscal cellars within the municipal district of Montoro, according to studies carried out by experts in this field.
Additionally, you will find useful tools of work like the plough or elements of collecting the olives which are made of esparto by some craftsmen of Montoro.
You will also appreciate some original information from the 18th century to our days, as well as some documents of the French factory and CIA in which some details such as the export of this gold liquid to Uruguay or Argentina are in detailed. In addition to this, you cannot miss contemplating the Royal Letter of suppliers’ distinction of S. M. Alfonso XIII House.

The exhibition and the photographic exhibition are of considerable importance in the Museum too, they were donated by people from Montoro and faneguerias can be also seen, oil factories, specific olive oil collection works, and even there is a photograph of all the workers in the White Industries in 1929.
Finally, we offer you a model where you will be able to appreciate the rooms, the milling room, the cellar, slabs and some others to give you a real idea of what the olive oil mills were like in Montoro.
Las Tercias Building
When you enter this museum, you should know that it is located in the building called Tercias catedralicias, which dates back to 1784 whose function was intended for olive oil, wine and wheat storage from the ecclesiastical tithes.
The building has two floors divided into three naves by thick pilasters that support ribbed vaults on the ground floor. The main entrance which is neoclassical, it leads to a small courtyard entrance.
